the vietnamese government has approved the planning for mui dinh, a huge eco resort located on the east coast of vietnam set to become one of asia’s largest hospitality and leisure developments. designed by architecture firm chapman taylor’s bangkok studio, the project spans 1800 acres and comprises seven hotels, a casino, theme park, beach club, mountain clubhouse and 500 villas.

inspired by the rich local history of mui dinh, chapman taylor‘s ecopark is designed to reflect the key elements of the surrounding environment – sand, sea, salt and sun. six resort hotels and a boutique hotel combine to provide a total of 7,000 rooms, with the development taking off from the cham tribal culture and architecture in design, as well as the lost world of the last dynasty.

the project is envisioned as a sustainable destination that hopes to give an economic boost to the region of eastern vietnam. how the resort will reduce its carbon footprint has not been revealed exactly but the buildings shown in the renderings appear to take cues from the local vernacular. thatched roofs and natural materials form structures situated within a heavily vegetated setting, home to a series of larger buildings, mountainous in shape and forming a trail towards one larger circular hub.
